WLNF supports library for second summer

WLNF made a grant of $3,000 to the Mamakating Library earlier this year to enable the library to expand its summer tutoring program in reading. With this money, the library has been able to continue last year’s reading enrichment program for students to help prevent the “summer slide” in literary skills; create a kindergarten prep series to help children develop the early literacy and social skills that they will need to be successful in school; and hire two local teen helpers to assist with the programming, thus allowing them to gain valuable work experience.

“The Mamakating Library strives to be a place where anyone can come to get answers, find the materials and programs they want, and feel accepted as valued members of our community,” said Library Director Cheryl Jones. “These grant-funded programs will give us an opportunity to bring children and teens into the conversation, fostering a love of libraries, reading, and community at an early age. We are grateful to the Wolf Lake Neighbors Foundation for seeing the value in this goal.”
